CA&ES Greenhouse Operations Sales Policy
Agricultural commodities produced in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences greenhouses are for research, teaching, extension and outreach purposes only. A large portion of the research projects within our greenhouses involve transgenic materials, regulated pathogens, unregulated pesticides, etc. and are heavily scrutinized by the USDA and CDFA. As such, there is a non-trivial concern regarding accidental mixing of research crops with food or feed crops. To protect human and animal health, crop sales are highly discouraged. In the event that crop byproduct is fit for sale, meets the regulatory standards set by the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, and the sales revenue will exceed all costs associated with harvesting, processing, and marketing the crop, the Faculty Manager shall decide whether or not to market the crop. Income generated from crop sales shall be collected and used by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Business Office to support Greenhouse Operations.
